Nancy Pelosi has defied the Chinese government’s warnings, not to visit Taiwan on an official visit.
The leader of the US House Nancy Pelosi arrived on Tuesday the 2nd of August in Taiwan, this was after China warned Pelosi not to.
The Chinese government has always seen Taiwan as part of mainland China under the “One China Policy”. When first announced in 1972 at the Shanghai Communiqué the US stated “The United States of America acknowledges that Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China. The United States does not challenge China’s position.”
In recent years The US has defied China’s sovereignty over Taiwan by conducting official visits with the illegitimate government of Taiwan and selling US weapons to Taiwan.
The US government’s official stance on the visit is to help promote healthy democracy by supporting the so-called democratically elected Taiwanese government.
In reality, her actions Have nothing to do with democracy and have everything to do with the domestic politics back home in the US. With the Democrats on the verge are being wiped out in the midterm elections Pelosi is attempting to send a clear message to Democrat voters. “Look at me, I can stand up to China.” This type of campaign is designed to make the Democratic Party look tough.
Her attempt to look tough with China will not help the US with foreign relations nor will it help the American people. It demonstrates that members of the United States government have no idea what diplomacy and sovereignty really mean.
As they lose the battle to keep their Hegemony in a unipolar world many countries are now standing united against this imperial ideology. More and more countries are deciding to take part in a multi-polar world where countries are treated equally and fairly regardless of size, race, or religion.
Pelosi’s visit has only confirmed to us all how desperate The US is in the dying days of a crumbling empire.
