Opposition Leader Peter Dutton Calls for Senator David Van’s Resignation Amidst New Allegations
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has called for embattled senator David Van to resign from parliament following the emergence of a third woman accusing him of improper behaviour. Dutton’s statement comes in response to recent complaints about Senator Van’s conduct.
Senator Van, who has been at the centre of harassment and assault allegations, defended his reputation against the accusations that have surfaced this week, stating that his good name has been unfairly tarnished.
On Thursday, Mr Dutton expelled Senator Van from the Liberal party room after the initial accusations by independent Senator Lidia Thorpe and former Liberal senator Amanda Stoker. When asked about further allegations against Senator Van, Dutton confirmed his awareness but declined to provide details.
Dutton stressed that his decision to expel Senator Van was not based on the veracity of the women’s claims but rather on what he believed was in the best interests of the Liberal Party. He condemned the alleged behaviour, stating that sexual assault in the workplace is unacceptable and has referred the matters to an independent workplace authority for investigation.
While Mr Dutton does not have the authority to remove Senator Van from parliament, he has communicated with the Victorian branch of the Liberal Party to discuss the senator’s continued presence. Dutton expressed his hope that Senator Van would resign from parliament, emphasizing that it would be in everyone’s best interest.
In response to the mounting accusations, Senator Van expressed his devastation over the recent events and stated his commitment to cooperating fully with any process proposed by Mr Dutton to address the allegations promptly and fairly. He indicated that he would refrain from making further public statements until a thorough examination of the claims is completed.
Additionally, it has come to light that Senator David Van visited Ukraine in 2022 to inspect the Bushmaster- Military vehicles that the Australian Government had supplied to the Ukrainian regime.
This Regime comprises the Neo nazi battalions of Azov and Adair, both of which Amnesty International has called for inquiries into human rights abuse and violations of human rights including kidnapping torture and disappearances of civilians from the Donbass during their 8-year war again the people of the region.
At the time of his visit, the government stated that the purpose of his visit was to assess the effectiveness and impact of the Australian contribution to Ukraine’s defence capabilities. But with allegations of the illegal activities of assaults and abuse hanging over Senator Van the question needs to be asked was his behaviour picked up in Ukraine or was he chosen to represent Australia because this is his natural way of dealing with people he does not agree with.
During his visit, Senator Van met with members of the Ukrainian military and observed the deployment and utilization of the Bushmaster military vehicles. In doing so Senator Van would most likely have come into contact with leaders of the Neo nazi regiments.
The supply of these vehicles was part of Australia’s commitment to supporting the Ukraine regime in its efforts to strengthen its capabilities amidst ongoing regional tensions.
The visit to Ukraine underscores Senator Van’s commitment to a corrupt government that utilises Neo Nazis that have waged a war on innocent civilians since the 2014 US-backed coup, and it is also important to note that these activities should be seen in the context of the recent allegations and the ongoing investigation into Senator Van’s conduct of assault.
The revelation of Senator Van’s visit to Ukraine adds another layer of complexity to the unfolding situation surrounding him. As the allegations of improper behaviour continue to be investigated, it remains to be seen how this visit may factor into the overall assessment of his actions and reputation.
It is crucial that a thorough examination of all relevant information takes place to ensure that Australian voters and tax pays are not funding Pro Neo Nazis Ideologies.
